The Pilsen region officially started the construction of the road II/232 crossing today, which is supposed to bring about a significantly better connection of northern Rokycansko to the D5 highway. The contract was won by the Roadfin construction company, the price in the tender fell by two fifths. It should be completed in 31 months.

According to the deputy governor for transport, Pavel Čížek, the construction for 296 million crowns without VAT will not only bring better connections to the highway. “Another goal is to divert transit traffic from adjacent municipalities and thereby increase the safety and smoothness of road traffic and the quality of the environment in the affected municipalities,” Čižek added. A large part of the costs is to be paid by the European Union from the IROP – Roads II program. classes on the Priority Regional Road Network.

The construction started a month ago, the official opening took place today. Thanks to the drop in the price in the competition from 490 to 296 million crowns, the region will be able to use European subsidies for further construction.

The total length of the new road is 5.378 kilometers, it ends north of the village of Osek. In addition to the main routes, the construction will also include a new connection of existing roads with a level crossing, a bridge over the Voldušský potok, a footbridge and a path for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as the relocation of utility networks.

Until now, cars drive from Osek past the hospital to the center of Rokycan and then have to drive along the ring road through the roundabouts, drive onto Soukenická and Plzeňská streets to the exit to the D5 highway. According to the last count, almost 5,000 vehicles, of which 800 are heavy goods vehicles, travel on the road of the second class II/232 every day. These cars will divert the new road and go straight to the highway.
