The Eagles elevated rookie linebacker Ben VanSumeren from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
VanSumeren, who signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent, has spent the entirety of the season to date on the practice squad. This marks his first gameday elevation, putting him in position to make his NFL debut.
The 23-year-old VanSumeren led the NFL with 26 tackles in the preseason to earn a spot on the practice squad.
The 6-foot-2, 231-pound linebacker hails from Bay City, Michigan, and played his college football at Michigan and Michigan State, playing in 39 total games (13 starts) and recording 100 tackles, two sacks, and two pass deflections . After starting out as a fullback, VanSumeren transitioned to the defensive side of the ball, and in his final college season with the Spartans, he posted 81 tackles, three for loss, while starting in 10 of 11 games.
The Eagles ruled out four players for Sunday’s game – tight end Grant Calcaterra (concussion), guard/center Cam Jurgens (foot), cornerback Bradley Roby (shoulder), and running back Boston Scott (personal matter).
