Captain Marvel has added reinforcements for the second film. He will need them. Without the Avengers, he must deal with a new threat that could destroy the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Who completed her miraculous trio and how did the new team of Marvels come to be?
Who would win in a fight against Thor? Or the Hulk? Or Thor and Hulk together? Her name is Carol Danvers, but you know her as Captain Marvel. Her eponymous adventure became the first female-starring superhero film to gross over a billion dollars.
At the same time, it was the first solo adventure of a superheroine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But that’s in the past. The future belongs to the sequel. But instead of a number or a catchy dramatic subtitle, we got a plural – here comes Marvels.
Marvels = Captain Marvel squared
Marvel Studios claims that a direct sequel was never planned. Instead, the new Marvels movie brings together three different heroines who surprisingly have a lot in common. Who is it about? First, of course, it’s Captain Marvel.
Second, Monica Rambeau, who knows the strongest Avenger simply as “Aunt Carol”. The last time they saw each other was when Monica was young, in 1995, which was the setting for the “first episode” of Captain Marvel. Thirty years have passed since then. Meanwhile, Monica has grown up and gained superpowers of her own (in the WandaVision series). Like “Aunt”, she can fly and is practically indestructible. And thirdly, there is a certain Ms. Marvel. The similarity of the names is not at all accidental!
