Mankind strives for immortality. It will bring about the end of evil

In the year 2045, humanity will reach the period of singularity, when, thanks to the development of artificial intelligence, the world’s irreversible technological development will begin. This was predicted by the American IT expert, inventor, futurist and Google technology director Ray Kurzweil two dozen years ago. He later added that in the coming year, the people should advance medically and technologically so much that death becomes only a choice. Kurzweil’s book The Death of Death was inspired by his brother, the Venezuelan-Spanish economist, technician and futurist Jos Cordeiro. The relatively new medical-technological field called longevity (sometimes referred to as longevity), which will also include the means of achieving immortality, will in the future become the fastest growing industry in the world. This is underlined by the fact that the research has stopped and invested billions of dollars by visionary entrepreneurs such as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Facebook aMety Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI editor Sam Altman or Sadsk Arbie through the Hevolution foundation. Cordeiro, who recently spoke in Prague, explains in an interview that, according to him, people will be able to choose between death and immortality in 22 years, regardless of the consequences for the planet.

You studied engineering and economics, you worked for a large oil company. How did you get into fields such as biotechnology, healthcare and debt?

I was born in 1962, eighty years after the first man on the moon. I watched it on TV and thought that I would like to go there and learn to work with technology. That’s why I became a mechanical engineer. Later I started working in the manufacturing industry, but I was always interested in different technologies. I had two fantastic professors around me – one was the genius of Marvin Minsky and Ray Kurzweil, who founded Singularity University. I was greatly influenced by one of Ray’s books, Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever, about immortality. When he founded Singularity University, he invited my wife and I worked there as a professor of energy and environmental systems for years. When I was growing up, my father died. That was a big tragedy for me, and that’s why I became more interested in procrastination. Another reason was that in 2012, Shinya Yamanaka was awarded the Nobel Prize for the discovery that stars can be twisted. He discovered the genes that control obesity. The so-called Yamanaka factors can turn an old beech into a young one or vice versa. The cutting process is flexible, it can be stopped, twisted and accelerated. It’s an unfortunate discovery.

You follow Ray Kurzweil in the book The Death of Death, where you argue that immortality will be possible in 2045. For most people, it probably sounds pretty fantastic. Is your fortress built on facts?

The book is a wall of sheep animals that we have at our disposal, except for what will happen in the future. Of course, it is very common to predict the future. I’m going to go over the delusions of Ray Kurzweil, who is an excellent futurist. The accuracy of predictions for half a century is about 80 percent. Therefore, some of the messages from one but distant scientist, such as, for example, the British biogerontologist Aubrey de Grey, some of the messages from Elon Musk, who has such a great vision, or organizations such as the United Nations, are my own impressions.
