A 76-year-old cyclist died in Jesenice after a collision with a car. A tragic accident happened on Wednesday afternoon in Zlaté Hory in the Ondřejovice district. According to the police, a senior citizen was unable to ride an electric bicycle, regional police spokesman Libor Hejtman reported today. This is the second tragic accident in the Olomouc Region on the same day, a 21-year-old pedestrian also died in Přerov on Wednesday, after being hit by a car with a trailer. The driver of the car left the scene of the accident, the police stopped her on the highway.
“The 76-year-old cyclist on an electric bike did not adjust his speed while going down the hill, especially to his abilities, the characteristics of the bike and the traffic technical condition and nature of the road, and while passing a slight right-hand bend, he went in the opposite direction, where he collided with an oncoming Fiat Ducato vehicle,” a police spokesman said.
The 36-year-old van driver tried to avoid the accident, braked intensively and drove the vehicle off the road to the right. Nevertheless, the cyclist hit the left front side of the van and crashed. Despite immediate first aid, the senior died on the spot, the spokesman added.
Accidents on the roads in the Olomouc Region have claimed 14 lives since the beginning of this year.
