In Žirč near Dvor Králové nad Labem in the Trutnovsk region, the construction of the relief service building of the Home of St. Josef for 84 million crowns. It will also include smart apartments, equipped with the latest technologies. They will be used by people with multiple sclerosis who are bedridden.

I enter the new building, so far it is full of workers. It will include facilities for the staff of the Home of St. Josefa, a relief service for people with multiple sclerosis, as well as apartments intended for patients with this diagnosis.

“We are in the first ever smart apartment for patients with multiple sclerosis,” a staff member of the St. Josefa Jan Staněk relatively large room.

It is only partially finished so far. An unusual amount of cables run from the walls. “There are much more cables here than in an ordinary apartment. It’s ready for our “grandfathers” and alternative communication specialists to play with everything and invent various gadgets for people with multiple sclerosis.

For people in the advanced stage of this disease, even such ordinary things as turning on a light, answering a phone call or even a simple scratching of the nose are difficult.

“Based on our 20 years of experience, we have learned that smart technologies can make life easier for these people so much so that they may even get a job again and can live fully again.

The staff of the home consulted with one of their clients, Josef Tintěra, about what the new apartments will look like. He has multiple sclerosis for 22 years and can only move his head.

He knows from his own experience what a person needs in such a state. “I am based on my disability. I deduce what I need or what I would like. So what would lead to my greater freedom.

Home of St. Josefa in Žirč is the only inpatient facility in the Czech Republic for patients with multiple sclerosis. The home offers three types of stay.

The attentive staff fulfills all the needs of clients for their full life. It also offers equipment rental. It helps patients with multiple sclerosis to live a full life.

Home of St. is looking for modern equipment for smart apartments. Josef in Žirč near Dvor Králové nad Labem in Trutnovsk, or Regional charity Červený Kostelec, under which the facility belongs, money in public collection.

Two-thirds of the target amount of 3 million crowns has been raised so far. It is possible to donate to people with multiple sclerosis until the end of the year.
