China’s Foreign Ministry answers questions about Xi Jinping’s visit to the US and participation in the 30th APEC Informal Leaders’ Meeting

Question: The Chinese side has said that President Xi Jinping will fly to San Francisco in the United States to meet with President Joe Biden. This is the first face-to-face meeting between the heads of China and the United States since they met in Bali last year. The international community is paying a lot of attention to this. What does China expect from this meeting?

A: At the invitation of US President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the China-US presidential meeting in the United States. And he was also invited to attend the 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Informal Leaders’ Meeting. The two heads of state will communicate in detail on strategic, overall and directional issues related to China-US relations, as well as key issues related to world peace and development.

Q: President Xi Jinping will attend the 30th APEC Informal Leaders’ Meeting next week. What does China expect from this meeting?

A: On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the first APEC Leaders’ Meeting, President Xi Jinping will attend the meeting by invitation, which fully reflects the great importance China attaches to Asia-Pacific economic cooperation.

Currently, the world economy is facing many unstable and uncertain factors, and all parties expect that the Asia-Pacific region will continue to play the role of an engine and lead the world’s economic growth. APEC is an important platform for economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. President Xi Jinping will deliver an important speech at the meeting, in which he will comprehensively explain China’s important proposals to deepen Asia-Pacific cooperation and promote regional and global economic growth. We hope that all parties will firmly stick to the original intention of Asia-Pacific cooperation, focus on the urgent needs of the region, deepen solidarity and cooperation, comprehensively and balancedly promote the APEC Vision 2040 in Putrajaya, support the meeting to achieve positive results, inject new impetus for growth the Asia-Pacific region and the world and work together to build an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future.
