The Prague components of the Integrated Rescue System (IZS) completed a special exercise in the Blanka tunnel on the night from Saturday to Sunday. Firefighters, paramedics and firefighters had to deal with a simulated mass casualty. The exercise did not affect traffic in the tunnel in any way, it ended around 5 o’clock in the morning.
The aim of the exercise was to check the readiness of individual components and their mutual communication. The extraordinary event that the organizers prepared was a mass traffic accident with a fire and a large number of injured. “According to the prepared scenario of the tactical exercise, the traffic accident involved a bus, five passenger vehicles, including a vehicle carrying a protected person, and five dozen injured persons,” a fire department spokesman said Daniel Fig.
To complicate the situation, the Pegasus radio network link failure was also part of the scenario. “The tactical exercise was divided into three phases, namely to extinguish a fire in a part of a bus and a passenger vehicle, rescue people from the bus and passenger vehicles, and eliminate the consequences of the traffic accident,” the spokesman added.
The exercise lasted at night, when traffic in the tunnel is restricted, and ended around 5 in the morning.
