Five American soldiers were killed during a military exercise over the Mediterranean Sea on Friday evening. They were refueling in the air with an aircraft of an unspecified type and their machine crashed into the water during the incident. This was announced by the European Command of the US Army on its website.
“We will provide more details as the situation develops. We are currently investigating the cause of the incident. However, we can say with certainty that the crash of the aircraft was clearly training-related and there are no indications of hostile activity,” the military said in a statement.
The command has not yet released details about the victims of the accident.
