The police are investigating the death of a man in Ostrava. His partner had stabbed him

Criminal investigators have been investigating the death of a 20-year-old man in Ostrava-Porub since Friday. The person in question was allegedly stabbed by his 43-year-old partner after a previous conflict. She now faces up to 16 years in prison.

The police received a report about the incident in one of the apartments in Ostrava-Porubá on Friday evening. “We can confirm that a man died on Friday. During the subsequent investigation of the information, it became clear that there was a verbal conflict between the partners (a 20-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman), which subsequently escalated into a physical attack. This resulted in a stab wound to the man,” police spokeswoman Eva Michalíková told TN.cz.

The police subsequently detained the woman. They also subjected her to a breathalyzer test, and she breathed over 1.5 per thousand. Criminal investigators from the Moravian-Silesian Region subsequently took over the case.

“She took him with a knife, it’s sad. I think it was in self-defense, because they kept arguing. I don’t understand what kind of boy she found,” one of the neighbors told Polar regional television. “She was an honest girl, she went to work and he sat at home and drank forever. Then they argued. We were just worried about the children they had at home, so that nothing would happen to them. Because they could also be heard crying,” he added with another neighbor.

The men tried to help the paramedics. “The patient was in a state where his basic functions were failing. After the arrival of the paramedics, there was a circulatory failure. They therefore started resuscitation, which did not lead to the restoration of cardiac activity. The doctor had to declare death,” said rescue spokesman Lukáš Humpl.

On Sunday, the investigator charged the 43-year-old woman with bodily harm resulting in death. “If she is convicted, she faces a prison sentence of 8 to 16 years. There will also be a proposal to take her into custody,” concluded Michalíková.
