Alcohol is an addictive substance that adversely affects a person’s psyche, behavior, control and recognition. It brings various health complications, dulls the senses, slows down reactions, misjudges the situation and overestimates one’s abilities, also increases aggression, causes so-called tunnel vision and falling asleep, which is especially dangerous behind the wheel. Drunk drivers are responsible for many traffic accidents every year.
The use of alcohol by persons under the age of 18 is also very dangerous, as the addictiveness is high and fast. Laws are meant to protect minors from dangers and negative impacts. The decision to go clean is left up to the free will of each adult individual.
Alcohol as a trigger
Alcohol also causes problems in families and, for example, therapists from the Answero counseling center, which helps people in need in the entire eastern part of the Central Bohemian Region, could talk about this.
An alcoholic mother who did not take care of her five children, hurt and humiliated them in her drunken state. The father of the family, who regularly beat his wife and threatened the children every Friday after returning from the pub – he was even expelled by the police several times. An aggressive, alcoholic grandson extorted money from his grandmother, and when she refused to give it to him, he shouted at her and threatened her. What do these people have in common? Alcohol has been ruining their lives for many years.
According to the therapists, the Dry February event can also have a positive effect on some heated family situations, and they recommend joining it. In addition, according to the experience of experts from previous years, those who abstain in the shortest month of the year are proven to limit their alcohol consumption in the following months as well. Which, among other things, can also have a positive effect on the overall health of the person in question.
Dry February begins. Up to a million people suddenly give up alcohol
“February is the perfect opportunity to try to function completely without it. Answero joins the nationwide Dry February call,” said Jolana Boháčková, the organization’s spokeswoman.
