1. Home Sweet Home

The Flames close out the month of March in what’s bound to be a special atmosphere at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Calgary hosts not only the Los Angeles Kings, but also the organization’s first South Asian Celebration in front of a national audience on Hockey Night in Canada and Hockey Night in Canada Punjabi. Get tickets

Earlier this month, the team unveiled its South Asian Celebration logo – designed by local artist Zoe Harveen Kaur Sihota – and the evening is set to feature a host of activities, music and food offerings.

On the ice, it’s the start of the final 10 games of the regular season for the Flames, and a chance to close out the month on a winning note after a frustrating trip through the Midwest earlier this week.

Calgary is coming off a 5-3 setback in St. Louis that could have justifiably ended as a Flames win, were it not for bad bounces, and bad luck.

But the team forges him, as directed by the leaders in the dressing room, such as forward Blake Coleman.

“It’s just the way it’s been going right now,” Coleman said of Thursday’s setback. “All we can do is continue to work hard, try to get better, I know that’s what I’ll do and the rest of the guys as well.”

In both road games this week, the Flames outshot and outscored their opponents.

But there were flashes of excitement, including Thursday’s two-goal effort (and almost a hat-trick) from Andrei Kuzmenko.

Jonathan Huberdeau notched a powerplay goal in Missouri and figures the bounces are bound to turn his team’s way as we enter the home stretch of the regular season.

“I think if we stick to the same effort we had (Thursday), we’ll be fine for the rest of the way,” he said. “We’ve got to build off that, take a little bit of positive from (the St. Louis game), and take it for next game.”
