Samsung will slow down updates for older flagships! Who is unlucky?

  • Samsung is one of the winners in terms of support for Android phones
  • The Galaxy S24 series can look forward to a record seven-year support
  • Select older phones will no longer receive monthly updates

Samsung is one of the winners in terms of support in the world of the Android operating system. If we focus on the latest Android 14, is only able to compete with the Korean giant Xiaomi, which (like Samsung) sent out the update to dozens of different models.

Samsung (and not only) sends regular monthly security updates to its flagships, after several years of launch the devices only receive quarterly updates. It is this fate that now applies to the Galaxy S20 series and, by analogy, also to the Galaxy Note 20 series.

Specifically, the lower frequency of updates will mainly affect popular models Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S20 FE. On the other hand, it should be added that we are looking at 4-year-old mobile phones that started the fight for customers with Android 10. The lower frequency of security patches is perfectly fine for me, especially since updates will continue to come.

We’ll see how much longer these models will be supported. Unfortunately, Android 14 will not be officially introduced to the phones, but three Android operating system updates were not exactly common in 2020 (what Sony phone owners would give for them). Recall that the latest the Galaxy S24 series already offers seven years of support, much like the latest Google Pixel line of phones. The phones will no longer age due to the end of support, but it will be interesting to see how long the individual components in the phones last.

How do you rate the support from Samsung?
