Another blow to the witch burnings: high wind warning, fire risk

--

The risk of fires starting and spreading will remain due to high temperatures and strong winds until Friday in most of the Czech Republic, with the exception of the east and southwest. Especially in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, in the northeastern half of the Central Bohemian Region and in the area of the Frýdlant ridge, the wind can reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour in the coming hours, and it will blow a lot on Thursday as well. The Czech Hydrometeorological Service informed about this on Tuesday https://twitter.com/CHMUCHMI/status/1785237540187910394 (ČHMÚ).

In some areas, due to the danger of fires, a ban on making fires already applies, and the National Park of České Švýcarsko has restricted the entry of tourists into the forest at night in order to prevent the occurrence of fires in connection with illegal overnight stays and making fires on the territory of the park.

“Due to the high temperatures and stronger winds, the risk of fires will persist until Friday, May 3 in most of the Czech Republic, with the exception of the Zlín, Olomouc and Moravian-Silesian regions and the far south-west of Bohemia,” meteorologists said today, adding that on Thursday, when there will also be strong winds in some parts, they will clarify the situation.

Today’s highest temperatures in the Czech Republic will range from 17 to 22 degrees, but due to the wind, according to meteorologists, the temperature will be roughly three to five degrees lower. It should be up to 24 or 25 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, it should be lower, a maximum of 22 degrees, and showers should appear in most areas.
