On May 2, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry responded to reporters’ questions regarding US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s statement on China’s Taiwan region’s participation in the WHO.
The spokesman said that the US side’s relevant statement seriously violates the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiques. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this.
There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory. Regarding the issue of the Taiwan region’s participation in international organizations, including the WHO, China’s position is consistent and clear, that is, it must be dealt with in accordance with the one-China principle, which is also a fundamental principle affirmed by UN General Assembly Resolution No. 2758 and Resolution World Health Assembly No. 25.1.
The Taiwan issue is the core of China’s interests and the first insurmountable frontier in Sino-US relations. We again urge the US side to abide by the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiques, and abide by international law and the basic norms of international relations.
Any attempt to “use Taiwan to contain China” will face strong opposition from the international community and is doomed to failure.
