Almost two-thirds of Czechs think that the death of opposition politician Alexei Navalny was ordered from above and represents a retaliatory move for long-standing criticism of political representation in Russia. This was shown by a survey by the Median agency for the CEDMO institute. Almost three-quarters then agree that Navalny’s life story shows how Russia has never abandoned its totalitarian practices of liquidating political opponents.

The claim that Navalny’s death was ordered by someone from the higher spheres is rejected by roughly one in six Czechs. Men avoid it a little more vigorously than women. Seniors over 65 show the greatest disapproval. Young people between the ages of 16 and 24 most agree with the fact that his death represents a retaliatory step for long-term criticism of the political representation in Russia led by President Vladimir Putin.

The life story of Alexei Navalny shows that Russia has never abandoned its totalitarian practices of imprisoning and liquidating political opponents. Almost three quarters of Czechs agree with this statement. Not only a ninth think so. Men agree with this opinion slightly more than women. People with university degrees are also most likely to lean towards it.
