The 21-year-old driver lost control of the car near the viaduct in Jáchymovská Street and drove off the road. According to initial reports from the scene of the accident, it appears that the driver failed to negotiate a left turn, causing the vehicle to skid and then hit concrete barriers and a slope. His passenger, the same age, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police officers from the district department of Karlovy Vary – Rybář, who were the first to arrive at the scene, immediately started resuscitation on the 21-year-old passenger. Unfortunately, although they provided immediate medical attention, the young man succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.

In the course of the investigation, the police conducted an indicative breathalyzer test on the driver, which revealed a result of 2.03 per thousand of alcohol in the blood. Criminal investigators from Karlovy Vary have initiated criminal proceedings in the case on suspicion of committing the crime of manslaughter by negligence and the offense of endangerment under the influence of a drug.
