A very serious accident happened at the Kino Luna tram stop in Ostrava on Výškovická street, shortly before half past three in the afternoon.

Eva Michalíková, spokesperson for the Ostrava PČR: “According to initial information, the woman (year 1971) was crossing the tramway at the Kino Lina stop, when she entered the path of an oncoming tram.”

Apparently, the woman did not notice the tram and registered it at the last moment. According to witnesses, she still stopped and wanted to jump quickly, but she did not succeed. The set of line number 15 then hit the woman.

Kamila Langerová, HZS MSK spokesperson: “A professional unit of firefighters from the Ostrava-Zabřeh station went to the scene. The person was wedged under the tram with both legs. Firefighters freed him with the help of pneumatic lifting and rescue bags. He was then handed over to the care of emergency medical personnel.”

According to information directly from the scene, the woman suffered very serious injuries.

Lukáš Humpl, spokesman for the ZZS MSK: “The fifty-two-year-old patient suffered serious injuries to her legs. After being rescued, she was conscious. After the administration of drugs and oxygen, she was placed in a vacuum mattress and transported to the Ostrava University Hospital.”

The police are still investigating the circumstances of the traffic accident. At the same time, rescue services warn that people should be very careful when crossing railway tracks, pedestrian crossings and moving in road traffic. In the same way, prudence also applies to drivers.
