Nowadays, we all depend on internet connection. We need this for work, entertainment, but also to search for connections on the way to work or perhaps to plan routes on vacation. When is it worth turning on a hotspot and when to use portable internet?

Connecting to the Internet away from home

In today’s world, it’s normal to want to be able to access the Internet wherever you are. All you need is a phone with mobile data or a Wi-Fi connection, for example in a cafe. But what if you don’t want to connect to an unsecured public network for security reasons or you have a plan with limited data that you don’t want to exceed for financial reasons? Maybe it’s time to get internet in a socket, which you can connect to outside the home, for example in a caravan, hotel or on a boat (in short, wherever there is a socket).

Mobile data and hotspot

Using mobile data is a very simple way to connect to the Internet. You don’t need any special cables and you can access the Internet even from your laptop when you connect via a hotspot. The downside is that Wi-Fi antennas in phones are very small, provide limited range, and only work well in certain areas where there is strong coverage. It is not even recommended to carry out demanding tasks via a mobile hotspot, the phone’s battery capacity then quickly drains and its condition also decreases.

● How does mobile hotspot work?

  • The phone receives data from a tower transmitting a mobile signal. The hotspot uses this data to set up the internet signal it sends on.

Portable mobile internet

Portable Internet is a device that allows you to create a fixed Wi-Fi network wherever you are (if the router can pick up a mobile signal there). Portable Internet can be used at home, on the go, and even abroad. You plug it into a regular electrical outlet or a 12-volt outlet in a car, RV, or boat. Portable internet is equipped with ethernet ports to connect another device that requires a stronger signal.

● How does portable internet work?

  • Portable Internet receives data from a tower transmitting a mobile signal, which it uses to set up and configure a connection to a Wi-Fi signal. To access Wi-Fi, you select an account and connect by entering the password you receive from the provider.
