Porn actress Stormy Daniels, who received $130,000 in 2016 in exchange for her silence about an alleged sexual relationship with Donald Trump, will be called to court today to testify in the former president’s trial. Her lawyer confirmed it.
Attorney Clark Brewster told the AP today that Daniels will “probably” be arraigned. Susan Necheles, Trump’s lawyer, said in court that the defense team had been informed that Daniels would be the second witness called on Tuesday.
The payment to Stormy Daniels, who goes by the name of Stephanie Cliffords, was made in 2016 by Michael Cohen, then Trump’s personal attorney, just days before the 2016 election. He then received monthly payments of $35,000 for a year, which prosecutors say were kickbacks for paying “hush money” to Daniels.
Trump is charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records stemming from those payments to Cohen. Trump’s lawyers say the money was meant to cover Cohen’s fees as the president’s personal lawyer. Trump also denied having sex with Stormy Daniels.
Daniels will take the witness stand a day after two Trump Organization accountants testified about their roles in arranging payments to Cohen. (CBS)
