On the night of September 1-2, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke similarly to many other politicians in the world. About the beginning of the new school year.

“Today, a new academic year began in our country, as it should be. Despite everything. More than six months of war. Extraordinary destruction caused by the occupiers. However, the education of Ukrainian children continues. It takes place in various forms, but everywhere systematically and professionally. And I am grateful to all our educators who continue their work and with their attention to children guarantee that all young Ukrainians have the opportunity to get an education and live a dignified modern life. More than 300,000 first-graders, almost 4 million pupils – this is the benchmark as of September 1 of this year,” Zelensky emphasized at the very beginning of his speech.

“So, in addition to many other conclusions, a very important political conclusion can be made today – about the resilience of our state, about the strength of our society. Our educational institutions are efficient. Our state and the local community ensure the restoration of education even in those areas where schools were destroyed during the occupation,” he continued, adding that the Ukrainian education system will also return to those places now controlled by the Russian occupiers. The Russians have destroyed schools everywhere, according to Zelenskyi, the Ukrainians will repair them there. And all children, pupils, students and visitors to university auditoriums will be educated freely.

But that was just the beginning. Zelenskyy then changed the topic and devoted a few words to the visit of inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. According to Zelensky, it is good that the inspectors got to the power plant, despite the Russians’ efforts to thwart their mission. This is how Zelenskyy sees it, who expressed the hope that the inspectors will evaluate the actual condition of the power plant and truthfully inform the world about what is happening there.

“Constant shelling, the presence of Russian soldiers and weapons in the power plant, mistreatment of Ukrainian personnel and attempts to bring the power plant under the control of Rosatom representatives, who are completely incapable of responsible access to such an object… These are the roots of the risks,” Zelenskyy pointed out.

He also stated that the Russians were forcing residents of the plant’s vicinity to lie to inspectors. Journalists from different countries who could accompany the inspectors were supposed to prove it to the world. However, Russia has banned it. “Unfortunately, the occupiers did not let the journalists in, but they organized a group of their propagandists. “Unfortunately, IAEA representatives did not protect representatives of independent media,” lamented Zelenskyy, according to whom mission members should keep in mind that several power plants, including the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, are located on the territory of Ukraine, and there were no problems with any of these facilities until the Russian occupiers invaded Ukraine .

“When the Russian army finally leaves the territory of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, when it takes away its weapons, ammunition, when it stops shelling Enerhodar and neighboring areas and ends its provocations, the Zaporizhia Power Plant will be able to return to completely safe functioning, which has always been under the control of Ukraine,” he emphasized Zelensky.

In this context, the Ukrainian president called for the complete demilitarization of the power plant and considers it a mistake that the inspectors did not come up with this demand. “And it’s bad that we haven’t heard the relevant calls from the IAEA yet,” said Zelenskyi, who was said to have put this request on the heart of the inspectors.

In connection with September 1, he also recalled that the Second World War broke out on this day in 1939. A war in which the Soviet Union sided with Nazi Germany until mid-1941. This war ultimately ended with the victory of good. This is how Zelenskyy described it and stated that one day the victory of good, the victory of Ukraine over the Russian occupiers, will end the current war.

He announced that after more than half a year of defense against Russian aggressors, more than 28 thousand defenders of Ukraine were awarded.

He gave two more words of thanks before saying goodbye to his audience.

“Today I especially want to express gratitude to our defenders on the Kharkiv direction – the 92nd brigade, all fighters and the commanding officer of the brigade, Fedosenko. Thanks for your bravery guys!” came the first thank you.

“And also to our air force. Yesterday, the anti-aircraft units in the Donetsk region did a very good job – they shot down another helicopter of the occupiers, already the 205th during the full-scale war, and two drones. In total, more than 800 Russian drones have already been destroyed. Our Air Force did a good job against enemy missiles today – thank you for achieving results!” said Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

After that, there was only the traditional farewell in the form of exclamation “Glory to Ukraine”.
