On the day Kabul fell to Taliban raids, the country’s National Museum released an unkind message. It then appealed to all “influential people” to help find the Bactrian treasure. He mysteriously disappeared.

Wasiq of the Taliban declared that “all treaties that have been signed with the international community regarding the protection of ancient and historical monuments will remain in force”.

Now the Taliban are desperately searching for the treasure. The golden treasure was lost exactly one year ago. Ahmadullah Wasiqdeputy head of the Taliban government’s cultural commission, said they had asked the relevant authorities to find the Bakhtar treasures, also known as the Bactrian treasure or Bactrian gold.

“The matter is being investigated and we will gather information to know what the reality is. If the gold was taken out of the country, it is a betrayal of Afghanistan,” Wasiq said.

Bactrian gold worth billions of dollars has been discovered under the seat of government. It was sealed in vaults. It was in them that the treasure from the time of the conquest of Afghanistan was located Alexander the Great in 327 BC “We opened one box and saw gold,” said Karzai at the time, “everything is safe and in its place.”

Ashraf Ghani, the finance minister at the time, said the hoard was probably the most significant collection of antiquities in the world outside of Egypt. He added that the safe had not been opened for decades, despite the Taliban, who ruled Kabul from 1996-2001, trying to torture employees into revealing it.

Soon after the verification of the perfectly preserved gold, it was decided that the Bactrian treasure would be exhibited in various countries in Europe and in the United States.

The Bactrian treasure contained 20,000 gold, silver and ivory objects. They were made in different parts of the ancient world. The treasure dates back thousands of years and is part of Afghanistan’s history.
