In addition to energy, the rising prices in households are most noticeable in food. Some foods have even become more expensive by tens of crowns. Based on data from the Czech Statistical Office, we present a comparison of how much people have paid extra for food since the beginning of the year.

Inflation, together with the deepening energy crisis, has a significant impact on food prices. Compared to the beginning of this year, a regular purchase will now be several hundred crowns more expensive. The rocket price growth mainly affects butter, cheese and baked goods.

Even a change in shopping habits and constant monitoring of promotional flyers will not save the Czech Republic from being expensive. If we compare prices with the beginning of this year, a kilogram of edam cheese costs more than 30 crowns more, and butter even 40 crowns more.

On the other hand, the Czechs’ favorite drink resisted the increase in price, a pint of bottled beer costs only 23 halers more than eight months ago. Similarly, inflation did not affect the price of granulated sugar or white yogurt too much, the price of which increased by 44 halers to 10.33 crowns.

“Seasonal fluctuations in terms of harvest are also playing a role now. So prices will change. During the summer months and at the beginning of autumn, we will definitely pay more for food,” said economist Petr Studnička earlier for TN.cz. He added at the same time that people are already facing rising energy prices.
