It’s a men’s ride, but there’s not much fun about it anymore… It’s different from the days when they were still people and not seniors…

The short story Senior Ballet was written by Marek Epstein. It was published in the short story collection Žít jako single, to which Petra Soukupová, Hana Lasicová, Miloš Urban or Emil Hakl also contributed. Published by Listen in 2019.

Marek Epstein (1975) is a Czech screenwriter, writer, dramaturg, occasional actor and director. As a screenwriter, he is signed to a number of successful films – Angel of the Lord 2, The Charlatan, Ve stínu, ROMing or Václav. Director Tomáš Mašín is currently shooting a film about the Mašín brothers based on his script.

In 2007, Marek Epstein published his first literary work, the novella The Bender of Crosses. In 2018, the novel Predator was published. He also has two short story books to his credit – in 2014, a collection called Ocucanej konec was published, and this year, the collection Nerez. His short stories can also be found in several thematic anthologies regularly published by the Listen publishing house.

If Marek Epstein had to choose between being a good writer or a good screenwriter, he would prefer the former, as he revealed in an interview. As a writer, he is closer to what he really wanted to say than as a – albeit a good – screenwriter, whose work involves x more people and variables.
