According to a survey by Cofidis from December last year, 9 out of 10 Czechs follow discounts. Food and drugstores traditionally receive the most attention.

The shopping advisor Kupi.cz, which monitors all promotional flyers, found that, for example, it is no longer worth buying a drugstore outside of discount campaigns. These are mainly detergents of the main brands on the market. “This is primarily due to the fact that the purchased quantity is enough for a longer period of time, the purchase price is in the hundreds of crowns, and the discount compared to the regular price is over 30 percent,” explains Petra Dvořáková, PR Specialist of shopping advisor Kupi.cz.

In addition, there was no significant year-on-year increase in the price of washing powders or gels of the two main brands on the market, with an average price increase of only four percent. Any money saved will be swallowed by other items in the shopping cart.

The price of dishes or baby diapers has increased by ten percent compared to last year. Czechs leave more for toilet paper or toothpaste at the cash registers, even in promotional discounts. Some items, on the other hand, have even become cheaper in discounts by a few percent.

You can save up to thousands

The Kupi.cz portal has selected 100 items that Czechs most often look for in discounts. On average, these products are discounted by eight percent more than last year’s promotional prices.

However, you can save thousands of crowns by shopping at discounts. “Buying on sale can comfortably save more than a quarter of all household expenses every month. In a family of four, it can easily be 2,000 per month,” says Petra Dvořáková.

The rise in food prices is visible in practically all sectors. While, for example, even last year, a package of eggs cost less than 50 crowns, this year it is already close to 60 crowns. Nestlé brand cereals, which already cost almost eighty crowns, are in a similar situation.

According to Kupi.cz, we pay the most for Jedenáctka Braník light lager, Magnesia natural water or Mattoni flavored water. Their prices have risen from about 15 to 20 percent.

Shopping advisor Kupi.cz belongs to the Seznam, as group, which also includes Seznam Zprávy.
