The Cupra brand is expanding the range of engines for the Leon model, the five-door hatchback (5D) and the Sportstourer (ST) station wagon, with two new engines. In addition, the automaker has also adjusted the range of equipment, thanks to which the Cupra Leon should offer a new level of sophistication and, above all, a better price/performance ratio. In addition, the revised offer is closer to the Formentor model.
The new engines in the offer are the 1.5 TSI four-cylinder petrol engines with an output of 110 kW (150 hp) and the 2.0 TSI with an output of 140 kW (190 hp). The weaker engine will be available both with a six-speed manual, which appears for the first time in the Leon Cupra, and in a mild-hybrid version of the eTSI with a seven-speed DSG gearbox. The weakest of the offered two-liters will be available only with DSG, moreover, it will arrive on the market later.
“Cupra The Leon is already the king of the road today, but as always we continue to develop this model in order to offer customers the widest possible choice, giving them maximum individualization options. At the same time, this step will allow us to increase our sales targets,” said Kai Vogler, Board Member responsible for sales and marketing of the Cupra brand. “After the introduction of these engines, our ambition is to achieve as much success with the Cupra Leon as with the Formentor.“
The basic Cupra Leon hatchback (5D) with a 1.5 TSI 110 kW engine and a manual transmission starts at a price of CZK 779,900, the Sportstourer station wagon with the same engine will start at a price tag of CZK 799,900. The first cars will be available at dealers already in October, but the Sportstourer variant will arrive later. So, unlike the hatchback, we cannot yet find new engines in its price list.
Along with expanding the range of engines, the brand also decided to adjust the level of equipment. Models with an output of up to 190 hp will be offered in the Cupra equipment line, models with an output of more than 190 hp will be offered in the Cupra VZ equipment. As in the case of new engines, the new range of equipment should ensure a more favorable price/performance ratio.
Let’s add that the standard equipment of the Cupra model will offer Full-LED front lights, specific bumpers, rear diffuser in body color or 18″ alloy wheels in silver color. In the cabin, we can find Cupra Sharp heated sports seats upholstered in fabric, but Cupra shells upholstered in leather will also be available on request, which will be complemented by a leather-covered dashboard (in the colors Petro blue or Soul black). Cupra Connect infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will offer a 10″ or 12″ screen with high resolution and support for voice control in spoken language.
In addition, new design packages are prepared for customers with equipment in the form of 18″ alloy wheels in the shade of copper, an extended roof spoiler in the shade of Midnight, and the 2.0 TSI 140 kW engine can also receive external aerodynamic side skirts in the shade of Dark Aluminum. In the cabin, it is possible to pay extra for pedals made of dark brushed aluminum or a black fabric headliner.
In addition, the Technology package with Top ambient lighting across the entire width of the dashboard, a 12″ infotainment screen with navigation and extended Cupra Connect services is available for the new engines for the amount of CZK 17,900.
