Horní Street between Dubina and Bělský les in Hrabůvka belonged to powerful machines. The traditional Road Circus event was marred by the accident of a freestyle biker, but luckily everything turned out well.
David Bryknar aka Jet mask, organizer: “A while ago, Vojta Bělunk performed here with his friend Milan Baník. Unfortunately, this one during the first boot jump. Not that he made a mistake. I said it at the beginning, we have an inclined arena, the angles of impact and the angles of reflection are completely different, it was long, but it is fine. They took him to the hospital for a checkup, so he’ll be fine.”
What were the nerves like before the jumps and when was the moment you decided you could do it?
Vojtěch Bělunek, Freestyle motocross jumper: “The nerves were such that I thought I was going to go crazy, because seeing a friend lying on the ground shaking and rolling his eyes is not pleasant. I thought I would give up, but for Ostrava, for my ego, and for my dream, so fulfilled. The best trick I did was a clean straight jump that I kind of jumped it. The most difficult thing is probably how I fly in the air here in that way, because then the motorcycle behaves completely differently, that you are flying above the motorcycle, and besides, I haven’t jumped the ramp here for a long time, nor the distance. How do you like to support people? They were great, really great.”
After that, the Road Circus was already in full swing. Children competed on the bouncers and the Peschl brothers entertained the audience with their stunts.
This year’s novelty was, among other things, car races. The cars that the boys built themselves in their garages lined up at the start.
David Bryknar aka Jet mask, organizer: “Now the boys are preparing for the first heats, which are official to work towards the cup for the 5th year of the Road Circus and the 19th year of the night sprint. The audience is great, they even started applauding for Vojta to jump, spontaneously, which without any lying, I have to admit that it took me too.”
Survey: motorcyclists and motorists: “I’m looking forward to it, I’ve been preparing by putting on a new tire and that’s it. Ambition. Just enjoy it, just make fun, let people have fun and that’s all.”
“There will be about 15 of us racing in cars and it looks like I might even be able to place.”
“It’s a Metalex faster with a Kawasaki ninja 1200 R engine and we’ll be racing a 125 kart for a 200m time trial. /////I’m personally here for the second time and it’s a bomb.”
Survey: event visitors: “Great, it’s great.”
“The bikes are just better, I’m always here every year.”
“I like motorbikes, they are really cool.”
“The atmosphere is good, full of people, the heat is too much, what else can I say about it. It’s about powerful machines. Motorcycles, that’s what we enjoy.”
“Like, yes it’s nice. I prefer motorbikes.”
The event is organized by the city district of Ostrava-Jih, and this year’s main partner was Ostrava Communications.
Martin Bednář (YES), mayor of MOB Ostrava-Jih: “This year in particular, I was looking forward to it a lot, because at the beginning it was the biggest gift for the audience. Unfortunately, there was also such an unpleasant situation, but my colleague managed it perfectly, so the show started excellently, and I believe that, of course, not only the sprint races, but also the Peschel Special will still be very interesting for all spectators and it will attract them again to the next editions.”
The event also featured stalls with good food and drink and an exhibition of vintage cars.
