Moravian-Silesian police officers went to a traffic accident in the Ostrava district of Svinov shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. A passenger car collided with a garbage truck there, the driver of the passenger car did not survive the collision.
“Shortly after 8:30 in the morning, we received a report of a traffic accident on Polanecká Street in Ostrava-Svinov,” regional police spokeswoman Eva Michalíková informed. According to initial information, the driver of the passenger car coming from the side road did not give priority to the garbage truck traveling on the main road.
After the collision, both vehicles ended up in a ditch, the 77-year-old driver of the car unfortunately did not survive the collision. He was traveling alone in the car, there were three people in the garbage collection vehicle. The driver of the garbage truck escaped unhurt, but his two passengers were injured and were taken by paramedics for treatment.
”The 45-year-old man was injured in the abdomen and back, and the 21-year-old passenger was injured in the upper limb. Both suffered moderate injuries,” Lukáš Humpl, spokesman for the Emergency Medical Service of the Moravian-Silesian Region, told TN.cz.
After the accident, the police closed Polanecká and 5. kvěna streets and coordinated traffic. All components of the integrated rescue system responded to the scene. Traffic was completely restored at half past eleven in the morning.
