Jablonec seniors are active, they will head back to school at the beginning of September

On Wednesday, September 7, another academic part for the third age begins in Jablonec nad Nisou. The autumn part of the Academy for Seniors, which is organized by the Center for Social Services (CSS) with the support of the statutory city, has the subtitle Prejudices, Values and Traditions.

The first Wednesday in September brings the ceremonial opening of another series of lectures within the Senior Academy in Jablonec. This year’s theme of the autumn cycle Prejudices, values and traditions will be started by the lecture Art of living, art of dying by Roman Hampacher, preacher of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Eight more lectures will follow, after which the educational tour will culminate in a ceremony in the town hall on the last Wednesday of November.

“This is a well-proven and very popular educational activity. There was such a huge interest in the spring that we already knew in February that it would be full in the fall as well. And that is indeed the case, the chosen capacity of 40 seniors turned out to be correct,” explained David Mánek, the deputy mayor for humanitarian affairs.

Jabloneck municipality will support the Sokolka center at least until the end of the year

The expertise of each cycle is guaranteed by the Center for Social Services. “We really invite people who have something to say. Thanks to this, each lecture is varied and interesting. Thanks to the excellent cooperation with the city and the Preciosa Foundation, we also have valuable gifts for graduates. In the spring, there were beautiful brooches for the ladies and stationery for the gentlemen, a representative rose from the mayor’s office and a small gift for each academic, including from us,” added Lukáš Frydrych, specialist for leisure activities at the Jablonec nad Nisou Social Services Center.

Tournament and Prague

Seniors really don’t get bored in Jablonec nad Nisou. For example, on Friday, September 2, a tournament for seniors from three cities – Jablonec nad Nisou, Česká Lípa and Liberec – was held in Tyršové sady for the third time in mölkky. The race was exciting, but in the end the victory remained with the host Jablonec. Originating from Finland, the game enjoys considerable popularity among the older generation. Those interested in this physical activity from Jablonec have training sessions every Monday morning in Mšen in the Čelakovského leisure activities area during the season and when the weather is nice.

This is a regular and long-standing event, but this year it took on a more touristic form. “Together we visited the Malvazinky cemetery, where many famous personalities are laid to rest, including Karel Gott and Eva Pilarová. In addition to the famous names, the architecture and overall power of this sacred place are also worth paying attention to. As the planned route of the trip continued, Karel Gott was mentioned again at Bertramka, as was Mozart. The view of Portheimka and the very pleasant shared lunch at the end of the route in Smíchov were also extraordinary,” commented David Mánek, a direct participant.
