Prague – Today, the Labor Office will publish data on August unemployment in the Czech Republic. In July, unemployment rose to 3.3 percent from June’s 3.1 percent. According to analysts, the increase in unemployment in July was a traditional seasonal fluctuation, but according to some, rising inflation, which forces companies to save, may have already contributed to it.

In July, 240,000 people were looking for work, while there were over 313,000 vacancies offered by the authorities. The Labor Office cited the limitation of recruitment of new employees as a result of company-wide holidays and the arrival of some school graduates on the labor market as the causes of the increase in unemployment. The highest proportion of unemployed, five percent, was in the Ústí Region. The Moravian-Silesian Region followed with 4.8 percent. The lowest unemployment remained in the Pardubice region, at 2.3 percent.

According to the director of the office Viktor Najmon, the development in the coming months will depend on the course of the war in Ukraine, the number of newly registered job applicants from among Ukrainians, the effects of the energy crisis on employers, ongoing high inflation or the epidemic situation. Analysts, however, do not expect a higher than four percent increase in unemployment this year.
