Russian-appointed authorities have announced the evacuation of civilians from Kupyansk, Izjum and the town of Velykyi Burluk in the Kharkiv region, where the Ukrainian offensive continues. Kupyansk and Izjum are considered to be important transport junctions on which the supply of a significant part of the Russian occupation troops in eastern Ukraine depends.

“(Evacuation) is taking place mainly from the city of Kupjansk and from the city of Izjum. Now news came that Velykyi Burluk was under artillery fire, and therefore people were of course encouraged to leave for safer places.” Vitaly Ganchev, quoted by TASS as the head of the Kharkiv region, said on Russian television.

Due to the interruption of electricity supplies to the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, which was caused by shelling, the situation at the site is highly risky and it is necessary to establish a protective zone around the facility as quickly as possible. Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), announced this today.

According to him, the operator of the Ukrainian power plant besieged by Russian troops is considering shutting down the last functioning reactor, because the probability that electricity supplies to the power plant will be restored is very low.

“I urge the immediate cessation of shelling in the entire area,” Grossi said.
