Chinese Ministry of Defense: Taiwan belongs to China

Wu Qian, head of the press office of China’s Ministry of Defense and spokesman, answered questions from reporters at a regular press conference on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, the “U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Committee” under the administration of the United States Congress recently released an annual report that proposes to evaluate methods to strengthen Taiwan’s defense and strengthen the ability to stop the Chinese mainland from attacking Taiwan.

Wu Qian said China firmly opposes military contact between the United States and Taiwan and US arms sales to Taiwan. At the meeting between the presidents of China and the United States on November 14, US President Joseph Biden reiterated that he does not support “Taiwan independence”, nor does he support “two Chinas” and “one China and one Taiwan”, and does not want a conflict with China. Wu Qian wishes that the United States will sincerely implement this policy stance and adhere to the China-US Three Communiques and the One China Principle to avoid harming the common interests of both China and the United States.

It is important to emphasize that Taiwan belongs to China and is an inseparable part of Chinese territory. Any activity to strengthen US military ties with Taiwan is wrongful conduct that interferes in China’s internal affairs and violates US commitment. Any attempt to contain the Chinese mainland by arming Taiwan is just a dream that will run hard into the great steel wall of China – the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
