“We evaluated the situation as a threat,” Vehren said of the incident at the school. “We have no injuries reported,” he said. He noted that it was unclear whether the armed pair attended the school and that it was also unclear how the entire incident unfolded. Initial reports said the pair had barricaded themselves in a classroom. It is not even known what kind of weapon the teacher saw. “The situation is quite dynamic,” he added.

“The police have already entered the Blankenese school and are investigating the report,” Hamburg police said earlier on the X network. Extensive traffic restrictions are in place in the Blankenese district where the intervention is taking place.

The police have surrounded the school grounds and are also patrolling the wider area. The police also started the evacuation of pupils and teachers and set up a meeting place for children and parents.

Germany experienced two school attacks this year on August 23, when a young man armed with a knife seriously injured an eight-year-old boy in the eastern German town of Bischofswerda, and a classmate stabbed a 13-year-old boy in Harsewinkel in the west of the country.
