The Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter came up with a surprising proposal. A politician from the Belgian Green Party called on the government to introduce sanctions against Israel. The reason is supposed to be the shelling of the Gaza Strip, which De Sutter considers inhumane.

Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter called on her government to take an unexpected step. According to her, Belgium should introduce sanctions against Israel. She also called on the European Union to end support for the Jewish state.

While war crimes are being committed in the Gaza Strip, Israel is ignoring international calls for a ceasefire,” De Sutter said.

But the Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized the need to impose sanctions on individuals and companies that support the terrorist movement Hamas. He already considers the response of Israel, which launched a large-scale military operation against the Gaza Strip, to be excessive, Politico reported.

Israel responded to the October 7 attack by Hamas. The terrorists then crossed the border and unleashed a massacre that killed 1,400 people. Israel’s harsh retaliation includes bombing the densely populated Gaza. The shelling of civilian objects in Gaza has earned criticism. But beneath them hide the bases of Hamas, which uses hospitals, schools and mosques as human shields. According to international law, these objects thus become legitimate military targets.
