The Houthis shot down an American drone
On the same day, Reuters, citing American sources, reported that Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen shot down an American military drone MQ-9. Yemeni rebels also published a statement of this wording, saying that the attack took place over Yemeni territorial waters.
U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the drone, made by General Atomics, was shot down off the coast of Yemen. However, they did not specify whether its destruction occurred in international airspace.
Following the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hamas following the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel, the US provided military support to Israel and strengthened its forces in the region. Since the start of the war, the US Navy has intercepted several missiles fired by the Houthis. Last month, a US Navy warship intercepted four cruise missiles and more than a dozen drones fired by the Houthis from Yemen and aimed at Israel.
