Vaccination recommendations were issued by the UK Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI), which pointed out that the number of gonorrhea cases will increase by fifty percent to more than 80,000 in 2022. In addition, health professionals are concerned that the number of difficult-to-treat infections, which it does not affect the most widely used antibiotic, ceftriaxone.

“The introduction of MenB vaccination to prevent gonorrhea in England would be the first vaccination program of its kind in the world and would significantly help reduce the number of gonorrhea cases, which are currently at an all-time high,” said JCVI chief Andrew Pollard.

Gonorrhea can also be spread by kissing

The meningococcal vaccine can also protect against gonorrhea, which is caused by a so-called gonococcal infection. According to studies, it can prevent infection in 33 to 42 percent of those vaccinated.

Gonorrhea is one of the most widespread sexually transmitted diseases in the world. The disease usually has the character of purulent inflammation of the mucous membranes of the excretory and genital organs, sometimes it can also affect the anus, pharynx or conjunctiva of the eyes. In men, it is associated with the risk of inflammation of the prostate, in women there is a risk that they will not be able to get pregnant.
