Taylor Swift could motivate young people for the European elections, the EU hopes iRADIO

The European Union wants to attract a large number of young people to the elections to the European Parliament, which will take place this June. She therefore decided to ask for help from those who can mobilize young people the most, i.e. successful artists, actors, athletes or other celebrities. “Nobody can mobilize young people better than young people, that’s how it works,” explained European Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas.

Among those whom Brussels wants to turn to in the coming days are the Spanish singer Rosalía, the Italian rock band Maneskin and the Belgian singer and rapper Stromae, wrote the Belgian newspaper The Brussels Times.

Singer Dua Lipa and Belgian star Angèle should be the next ones approached from the list of world stars. But the goal is to contact as many artists, athletes or actors as possible from the entire twenty-seven who have a large fan base and could motivate young people to go to the polls.

The information about the planned campaign comes just a few days after the vice-president of the European Commission (EC) Margaritis Schinas also made an unexpected challenge. At Wednesday’s press conferences, he asked the American singer Taylor Swift to attract her European fans to vote in the European elections.

“No one can mobilize young people better than young people, that’s how it works,” said Schinas. “I think it works better than commissioners speaking from the press centre,” he added.

In this context, he mentioned how last September Taylor Swift called on young Americans to register for the presidential election, which 35,000 people did the day after. “Taylor Swift is doing a concert in Paris in May, I hope she will do something similar for young Europeans. I hope that someone from her media team listens to this conference and conveys our message to her,” added the vice-chairman of the commission.

Taylor Swift is performing in Paris on May 9, among others. This is the date on which the annually celebrated Europe Day falls.
