“At the moment, the bodies of fifteen dead people have been recovered from the rubble,” the Ministry of Emergency Situations said. Rescue and search operations are continuing at the site.

The press department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations also reported that rescuers freed ten people from the rubble and handed them over to medical personnel. According to him, the five injured are in serious condition.

“It’s always full on weekends… There can be up to 40 more people in the rubble,” Leonid Pasečnik, head of the self-proclaimed pro-Russian unit of the Luhansk People’s Republic, said earlier on Saturday, according to TASS.

Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Information said rescuers had recovered the bodies of five dead from the wreckage and that the search was ongoing.

According to TASS, military investigators said the bakery may have been hit by a missile fired from a HIMARS salvo rocket launcher. Ukraine has not commented on this incident and the information cannot be independently verified.

Ukrainian troops withdrew from Lysychansk in early July 2022, giving Russia control over the entire Luhansk region.

In January, Russia accused Ukraine of shelling a marketplace in Donetsk, another Russian-occupied Ukrainian city. According to the pro-Russian authorities, almost three dozen people died there.
