Last week, representatives of the United States Secret Service and other relevant security agencies at the federal, state and municipal level went to the prosecutor’s office for a hasty meeting with one goal: to discuss how to ensure Trump’s safety in the unlikely event that a judge orders him to be briefly imprisoned in a court cell for contempt of court.

The fifth question, to which there is no clear answer yet, is how to safely imprison the former president if a jury decides he is guilty and a judge gives him a prison sentence instead of house arrest or probation. Several sources told The New York Times (NYT) that a prison sentence is unlikely for Trump. And if the judge eventually decides in his favor, the case will certainly lead to the appeal of the courts and at the very least.

The low level of probability, however, does not allow the alarming prospect of the presumptive Republican nominee for the post of American president to be imprisoned, and not only for members of the president’s security and the entire service, who would have to handle this logistical non-me in the first row.

Understandably, if we were in uncharted waters. neither the state nor the entire federal system had to meet him yet, said Martin Horn, who worked in high positions in the entire system of the states of New York and Pennsylvania.

Protecting Trump in this environment would mean housing him separately from his companions and controlling his food and personal belongings. A group of agents would have to patrol the prison 24 hours a day, and those armed with deadly weapons would be prohibited in prisons. Another NYT source described that in New York there are several hundreds of hotels that have been closed or will be closed, and could thus serve as the ex-president’s dorms and his security guards’ quarters.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi refused to talk to the newspaper about specific protection operations, but said that the federal law enforcement Secret Service used to protect presidents for using the latest technology, intelligence information and tactics.

The spokesman for the New York State Prison, Thomas Mailey, said that his company cannot speculate on how it will deal with a hunter who has not been convicted. However, according to him, the system is prepared to approach people with special security and health needs, both mental and physical. The department would be a suitable place for the former president, said Mailey’s colleague from the original team, Frank Dwyer.

The ongoing trial in Manhattan is one of the criminal cases involving the former president and is likely to be the only one to be decided by the jury before the November presidential election. The prosecution found Trump guilty of falsifying financial records in 34 counts. If the jury decides he is guilty, Judge Juan Merchan could choose to impose a sentence ranging from probation to 20 years in prison, although a total prison sentence for a first-time offender in Trump’s age would be extreme, the NYT wrote.
