The horrific incident shook the entire neighborhood. A large crowd of people immediately gathered in front of the scene of the crime, who, together with family and closest friends, honored the memory of the dead children. At the commemoration, people released balloons and placed and lit candles along the walls of the house while music played.

Arriving visitors also spontaneously placed flowers, teddy bears or photographs of the murdered on the spot.

Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin offered his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and said the nation had been shocked and deeply saddened by this terrible tragedy.

Irish Garda Commissioner Drew Harris described the case as horrific and traumatizing. “This is one of the worst incidents I have ever heard of or experienced in my service,” he said.

According to the Guardian, Harris urged anyone who was in the area at the time of the murder and who might have any information to come forward and help gardaí with their investigation.
