Kyiv – China has confirmed that it respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, he wrote today on
head of Ukrainian diplomacy Dmytro Kuleba after a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. The ministers met during the session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Today, the Moscow-controlled and occupied territories in the east of Ukraine started a referendum on their accession to Russia. The government in Kyiv sees the vote as part of Russia’s attempt to annex these areas, similar to what happened in 2014 in the case of Crimea.
Wang I also told Kuleb that China rejects the use of violence as a way to resolve conflicts.
China maintains its neutrality regarding the more than six months of Russian invasion of Ukraine. But recent comments after the meeting of Chinese President Xi Jinping with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries in Samarkand drew attention. The Russian president said at the time that he “understands” China’s concerns about the conflict in Ukraine and promised that Moscow would do everything possible to end it as soon as possible.
