About 1.5 million military uniforms are said to have gone missing in Russia, which are now missing for soldiers driven to the front in Ukraine. According to the newspaper Novaya Gazeta, deputy for the Transbaikal Region Andrey Guruliev stated this.

“I still don’t understand where the 1.5 million sets of uniforms that were stored at the staff reception points ended up. Today we either have uniform problems or something else is going on. All these things were there, where did they go? No one can explain it to me anywhere and in any way!” he said.

According to Guruljev, staff reception areas need to be “equipped now for the future” so that they can “easily” receive people.

“We have to ask ourselves specific questions: where did it go, where is it now and how did it happen that our conscripts cannot get a uniform,” added Guruliev, who himself served in the army and reached the rank of major general.

However, the question is probably rhetorical. Russia has huge problems with corruption and the uniforms were most likely stolen and then sold over the internet and other places.

The men who have been called up for service as part of the new partial mobilization are facing shortages of virtually all equipment. They are reportedly expected to bring their own thermal underwear or drones, which would normally be provided by the military. It is quite possible that now the mobilized men have to buy the very uniforms they should be getting for free.

Guruliev added that Russia must prepare for the next possible wave of mobilization. He also criticized the Russian General Staff, which had to withdraw troops from the occupied Ukrainian city of Lyman.
