The driver of the car pulled into the stop on Zochova Street in the center of the Slovak metropolis. There were just a few people there. The Bratislava police reported on the accident on Facebook, stating that they will provide more information as soon as possible. The tragedy claimed four lives, and seven people have injuries of varying degrees.

Police spokesman Michal Szeiff said that the tragic collision occurred less than two hours before midnight. Firefighters reported that they rescued people from and under the vehicle at the scene. The mentioned stop is used by bus lines that connect the city center with the largest housing estate Petržalka and other places.

“I got off the bus, walked very slowly to the departure board, five to ten seconds later a car came behind me and unfortunately threw people around. We helped as much as we could. I will not describe it further out of respect for people,” one of the alleged witnesses of the accident wrote on social networks, according to the newspaper Sme.

Under the police status, other people described, for example, that the car stopped tens of meters behind the stop area, “as if it didn’t brake at all.” The police closed off the area around the accident and temporarily diverted public transport lines. She later invited any other witnesses to contact her.

“It’s hard for me to find words for the tragic event that happened late in the evening in Zochova Street,” said Bratislava Mayor Matúš Vallo.
