ada people have moderate skunks connected mainly with airplanes, where by the way, don’t worry about black, but inside the light orange or yellow. So that they can be found after accidents. For many years, we can also meet them in cars, but from the beginning of this year they will have to be in every new car. Get it out of the hands of the European Commission.

In addition to the additional installed black boxes, event data recorders will be newly installed in the EU via the presence of the vehicle’s airbag module.

They will find the benefits and the improvement of security systems

Black skis will have to be installed in new cars from January 7, 2024, although many car manufacturers and other institutions install them in cars today. And although the new model only applies to the EU countries, in American cars, black skirts have been standard for many years.

The Obama government wanted to make them mandatory, just like the EU wants them to, but it turned out to be useless. In the EU, the system will be called Event Data Recorder (EDR) and will be used by all passenger cars, as well as vehicles falling into the N1 category, including vans with a weight not exceeding 3,500 kilograms.

Often today, insurance companies install circuit breakers in cars at a discount on the price of the insurance policy. A device capable of recording every parameter in the event of an accident will help to know the dynamics of the accident and determine the fault.

Their purpose is to help analyze and understand what happened just before, during and after the crash. The system is set to monitor five seconds before the crash and 0.3 seconds after it. The EDR will be connected to the dic unit of the airbag and cannot be turned off in any way.

It is activated automatically every time the airbag and front safety dogs are activated. The system then records the speed before the accident, braking, the position of the car, but also your inclination towards the road. It also recorded how the car’s security systems reacted, and managed to analyze whether the eCall system, which has been mandatory in the EU since 2018, was working. Do not store images, sound or anything else in the black dash, assures the Motor1 magazine.

In contrast to other skunks, who then install the car package of a insurance company or company in their company cars for the maintenance and monitoring of their vehicle fleet, it must be installed as required by the European system and integrated into the car and guarantee anonymity. It is not an additional installer and cannot be deactivated or uninstalled in any way. It is a mouthful of the car right from the stop, explains Motor1.

The data will be black

In a day and age when we have to protect our personal data more often than not, it is understandable to worry about what will happen to the data and who will actually have access to it. According to EU regulations, all data must be protected. The information is stored inside the EDR and is not transmitted externally through the wireless connection in any way. To access them, you need to connect to the OBD port, Motor1 explains. The organization works in a closed system and all recorded data is stored anonymously.

They can never be the subject of any trade. The European system states that the collective data allows precise identification of the make, model and version, even if it is not possible to trace the chassis number (VIN). The last 4 words cannot be recorded or saved in any way, and this makes it impossible to identify the vehicle itself or its owner. There is no way to identify the owner of the car from the EDR.

It will always be the case that the evening data will only be available to the authorized agency investigating the accident. It is likely that some hundreds of anonymized data will also be used by manufacturers in order to improve the assistance and safety systems of cars as much as possible.
