As PrahaIN.cz has already reported, the highest income in the Czech Republic is in the range of 240,000–249,999 crowns. This follows from the data provided to the editors by the Czech Social Security Administration.

However, a number of other interesting factors emerge from the overview tables. We noticed, for example, that since 2015 the number of seniors with a retirement pension of over seventy thousand crowns has increased by three thousand percent.

While at the end of 2015 three seniors were receiving this amount, at the end of 2023 there were ninety-three of them.

There were 191 of them in the range of 60,000-69,999 crowns for the same period.

The overview table also shows that over 2.3 million senior citizens received a pension as of 31 December 2023.

Although we have mentioned the extreme amount of pensions so far, this income is most often in the range of 21,000-21,999 crowns. At the end of last year, there were 269,972 senior citizens in this zone. Exactly 263,641 of them were in the slightly lower range of 20,000-20,999 crowns.

Thousands of seniors have up to five thousand

The tables of the Czech Social Security Administration also point to the other extreme, the lowest income category, when we are talking about a monthly retirement pension of one to five thousand crowns. There are 8,926 senior citizens here. Another 2,480 are in the 5,000-5,999 crown category. The amount of the old-age pension will not exceed seven thousand crowns per month for 4,384 seniors.

“Extremely high incomes are eliminated for the purpose of calculating the amount of the pension only from 2010 with the introduction of the so-called reduction thresholds and their gradual reduction when calculating new pensions. As of January 1, 2015, a third reduction threshold was introduced, and incomes above this threshold are no longer taken into account,” said Tereza Koukolová, spokeswoman for the Czechoslovak Social Welfare Office, for PrahaIN.cz.

For the year 2024, this means that the personal assessment basis (OVZ) of up to 19,346 crowns is included in its entirety. For OVZ in the range of 19,346–175,868, only 26 percent is counted and the amount above 175,868 OVZ is not taken into account.
