While the director’s feature debut Reservoir Dogs (1992) was more of a mouthful for connoisseurs of independent cinema, the hit Pulp Fiction catapulted him into the global film universe.

On the thirtieth anniversary of this classic, which took home the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1994 and was followed by countless other awards including an Oscar and a Golden Globe or two Bafta awards, it would be enough to repeat the notorious dialogues and shudder to the soundtrack, whose compositions are inextricably linked to the iconic movie scenes.

However, deeper questions immediately emerge: Are puns and catchy melodies from the archive enough for a good film? Why exactly did Pulp Fiction resonate so much? Is his success deserved? What is it like to watch him today? And what is the movie actually about?
