The Prague Marathon will start on Sunday at 9 a.m. from the Old Town Square and the runners will have a 42.195 km long course across the streets of Prague. The route will lead mainly around the Vltava River in the territory of the city districts of Prague 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8. The end of the race is expected at 4 p.m.

In connection with this sports holiday, a number of short-term traffic measures are planned. During the race, the Police of the Czech Republic will manage the traffic in cooperation with the Municipal Police of Prague, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. they will gradually close and open streets and intersections along the race route.

“Outside this time, the normal traffic regime will apply, with the exception of Pařížská, Staroměstská and Václavská náměstí streets, where restrictions will apply for longer due to the construction of the plant’s facilities,” the spokesman explained.

Due to the race, the following roads in Prague 1 will be temporarily closed to car traffic: Celetná, Čechův most, Dvořákovo nábřeží, Jiráskův most, Charles’s bridge, Klárov, Křižovnická, Mánesův most, Masarykovo nábřeží, Mostecká, Na Příkopě, Národní, Pařížská, Staroměstské náměstí , Těšnov tunnel and Ludvík Svoboda embankment, 28 October, Edvard Beneš embankment, U plovárny, Kosárkovo embankment, Jan Palach square, Malostranské náměstí, Tomášská and Valdštejnská square.

Street closures will also apply in some places in Prague 2, specifically on the Rašín embankment, Palacký bridge in Na Slupi streets, and will also apply to Svobodova, Sekaninova and Jaromírova streets. Traffic restrictions will also be in place in Prague 4 for the Podolský nábřeží area, and in Prague 5 it will be Diezenhoferový sady, Zborovská, Lidická, Nábřežní and Strakonická Streets, Svornosti Street and Hořejší and Janáčkovo Nábřeží. In Prague 7, the closure will again affect Bubenské nábřeží, Jankovcova, Jateční and Komunardů streets, as well as Edvard Beneš and Kapitán Jaroš embankments. Last but not least, the traffic restrictions concern part of Prague 8, specifically the Libeňské bridge, Štorchova, Voctářova and Rohanské nábřeží streets.

“Furthermore, there will also be a parking ban on the entire race route on Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5, for safety reasons. If they do not respect this ban, their vehicles will be towed,” the spokesperson warned.

As reported by the Prague Transport Company (DPP), in connection with the plant, the operation of some tram lines and public transport buses will also be restricted. “In view of the changes in surface transport in the city center, it is recommended to use mainly the metro lines, which will eventually be increased in capacity,” said DPP spokesperson Aneta Řehková.

Until Saturday 4 May, always from 9 am to 6 pm, a free transport information line is also available: 800 165 102. On the day of the race, i.e. Sunday 5 May, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. there is also a line available: 800 100 991.
