Prague’s road workers are investing about two billion crowns in repairs this year, which is roughly the same year-on-year. They will repair the roads, complete the reconstruction of the Barrandovské bridge and start building a part of the Libeňské bridge on the bank near Palmovka or the underpass under Strakonická Street in Zbraslav. Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates) and Deputy Director of the Technical Communications Administration (TSK) Josef Richter told journalists at a press conference at the beginning of the week. In addition to major investments, TSK also repairs other locations in the metropolis and is also responsible for routine maintenance.

“This year we will focus on important constructions because we have a large debt in infrastructure. As for roads, last year we invested 1.9 billion crowns there, and another 1.8 billion were spent on routine maintenance and repairs. We assume that it will be similar this year and that we will be around two billion crowns in terms of investments,” said Hřib.

Among the biggest reconstructions is the already started final phase of repairs to the Barrandovský bridge, specifically the northern part, which will end at the end of the summer holidays. About a month ago, workers started demolishing part of the Libeňský soumostí, the so-called inundation bridge, which serves as flood protection.

Construction that will significantly affect traffic is also the reconstruction of Průmyslova between U Stavoservisu and Tiskařská streets. One part of the road was repaired by TSK last year. “We already have a contractor and we will be working regularly from June to October on this key road, which is also in a very bad condition,” said Richter. 53,000 cars pass Průmyslova every day.

People will be able to use the new underpass on D4 in Zbraslav, where there is now a pedestrian crossing over Strakonická and the maximum permitted speed has been reduced to 50 kilometers per hour. “Finally, we have started with the PRE cable re-lays, and at the moment the construction work itself is starting. We plan to complete it by the end of this year,” said Richter. The underpass is being built in Bystrá Street in Horní Počernice, while TSK is waiting for a building permit.

Road workers have also already started repairing U Výstaviště street in Prague 7, where the work will last until 2025, and in June they will start repairing the nearby Dukelských hrdinů street. “Since February, we have been reconstructing Hartigova in Žižkov, and I must state that the work is progressing well and the deadline will be shortened. If it goes well, it will be finished by the end of the holidays,” Richter said. The repair of Đáblická street began in the middle of April this year, and will end this December.

TSK cooperated with the Prague Water Supply Company (PVS) during the renovation works in Peroutková Street in Prague 6. The companies agreed on the project documentation and selected one contractor and construction manager, i.e. the repair of the road and the water supply.

The dangerous intersection of K Běchovicům and K Lipám streets will be replaced by a roundabout in Kolodějy. Road workers will also repair the retaining wall on Spořilovské, where the work will not affect traffic. They will also repair the underpass of Türkova Street in Jižní Město, which has been supported for several years. “We have a contractor and we should be starting in June,” Richter said.

In addition to money from the city, according to Richter, TSK is successful in obtaining subsidies from the State Transport Infrastructure Fund (SFDI). “We also managed to transfer funds from last year to this year, so we got about 160 million crowns, which we didn’t invest last year because of the weather,” added Richter.
