The new radar in Dubice Street in Liberec has caused a lot of emotions on social networks. Thousands of drivers have already been fined. But their number is decreasing every day, currently there are about eighty offenses every day. Many people criticized the radar as being too strict. Mayor Jaroslav Zámečník (Mayors for LK) admitted that it could be modified.

“Radar polarizes society, some people say that the rules must be followed. It applies equally to everyone. The other part of society, on the other hand, wishes that there were no radars and that one could drive freely,” said the Locksmith.

But according to him, the radar is fair. “Radar settings are fair to everyone equally,” he added.

According to the mayor, the situation in Dubica is gradually calming down. While a week ago there were two hundred violations, now there are eighty a day. “I want to thank the citizens for starting to respect speed,” stated

According to him, this is the main reason why there is a radar in Dubica. “I hope people will understand that radars can bring them safety first and foremost,” he explained.

But people criticized that the radar is very strict and sends fines for very little speeding. According to the mayor, there could be minor adjustments. “For the future, I have given the task to the director of the city police to work with the possibility of different detection settings, for example according to the time of day, so that it is more friendly for people,” stated Zámečník, saying that the radar in Dubica will cost the city 67,000 crowns per month without VAT.

More radars will soon be added in Liberec, they will be informative at ten locations, but if they do not calm traffic in selected locations, they will change to ones that will measure and hand out fines.

Dubice was such a pilot location, Hejnická street in Krásná Studánka will be the second in the order. “The settlement committee requests that, despite the fact that the situation there has turned around and ninety percent of drivers comply with the speed limit, the residents of Krásná Studánka wish for there to be a section measurement,” said the mayor.

The surrounding municipalities could also join the Liberec system. “So far, the biggest interest is in Oldřichov in Hájy, where around ten thousand cars drive a day. Other municipalities are still considering it, there are relatively large acquisition costs,” concluded.
