Prague – Koalice Spolu (ODS, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09) took advantage of the fact that the opposition movement ANO did not register the domain with the slogan of its campaign for the European Parliament elections “Czech Republic, everything for you”. It posted a picture on the website with a slogan in which Russia is mentioned instead of the Czech Republic, the leader of the movement Andrej Babiš and the number one candidate Klára Dostálová also have a Russian flag on their faces instead of the Czech flag. In response, the head of the ANO club Alena Schillerová spoke of a hybrid attack by the coalition of five, Babiš called Fiala a ridiculous, or rather just a sad character.

ANO presented its campaign and slogan before the June elections in Zlín on Wednesday. The Prime Minister and Chairman of the ODS, Petr Fiala, told journalists today that Spolu took advantage of the fact that the movement did not register a domain with a campaign password. According to the prime minister, the image accompanying the text “Vote together in Europe, there is no danger of Russia there” is intended to draw attention to the dangers arising from the YES policy. At the same time, he refused that the coalition would engage in an anti-campaign.

ANO Schillerová, the chairperson of the ANO deputies, called the altered images a hybrid attack by the coalition of five, i.e. including the Pirates and Mayors and independents. According to her, the government parties are afraid of a program of movement and peace or a ceasefire in Ukraine, because they would lose their only topic, she said in the House of Representatives. At the same time, before the meeting of the lower parliamentary chamber, she said that she would call on Fiala to apologize, however, the prime minister did not attend the meeting day due to work reasons.

While the vice-chairman of TOP 09 Michal Kučera considers the form of the website to be a funny and amusing naming of the positions of the chairman of the ANO movement Babiš, it was the ex-prime minister who sharply attacked Fiala over the matter, whom he called a ridiculous, or perhaps just a sad character.

“I don’t understand how he can lie about a positive campaign, when he just divides society with some Russian cartoons, flags and slogans. He only abuses the war in Ukraine and doesn’t care at all that people are dying there, he campaigns on that tragedy and brags about it, ” remarked Babiš.

The European elections will take place in the Czech Republic on June 7 and 8, in which citizens will choose 21 MEPs. All parliamentary parties and movements will take part in the vote, only the Pirates and ANO are running independently. The ruling ODS, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09 are striving for the votes of the voters, just as they did in the last parliamentary elections in the coalition Together, the coalition of Elders and personalities for Europe created by the STAN and SLK movements. The opposition SPD put together a joint candidate with the non-parliamentary Tricolora.

The victory will be defended by ANO, which occupied six seats five years ago. The ODS defends four mandates, the Pirates three as well as the former coalition STAN and TOP 09. The SPD and KDU-ČSL each have two MEPs, the Communists one.
